Step 10

Provide everyone with the skills to work.

When men and women graduate from a life-transformation program, one of the most critical challenges they face is finding a job.

Union Rescue Mission invests in employment training, job-skill development, and connections to career opportunities. One of our partners, Chrysalis, models this kind of effective program and deserves wider recognition and support.

Action Steps

  • Donate business clothes to help people at Union Rescue Mission looking for a job.
  • Volunteer at Union Rescue Mission’s Learning Center — teach resume writing; conduct mock interviews; assist and tutor people to find employment. Contact Jenny Kershner at jkershner@urm.org or 213-347-6300 ext. 4400 for more information.
  • Follow @urmvolunteers on Twitter to stay up to date with the latest opportunities to help people gain skills and secure employment.
  • Financially support organizations like Union Rescue Mission’s partner, Chrysalis, which provides people experiencing homelessness with the resources and support they need to find and retain employment.
  • Encourage your employer to hire people who have successfully graduated from a job preparation and skills training program. Go to our www.urm.org/stories and watch our videos with “John K” and “Will Nicklas” to see how two executives from Toyota made a difference in this way.
