The Old Testament Prophet not only looks ahead to Jesus, the Redeemer, but even remarkably predicts the small village that would be the place of His birth, Bethlehem;
Micah 5:2–5
But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose origin is from of old, from ancient days. Therefore he shall give them up until the time when she who is in labor has given birth; then, the rest of his brothers shall return to the people of Israel. And he shall stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they shall dwell secure, for now he shall be great to the ends of the earth. And he shall be their peace.
This clause should be joined to the preceding verse, as it finishes the prophecy concerning our blessed Lord, who is the Author and Prince of Israel; and shall finally give peace to all nations, by bringing them under his yoke.
—Adam Clarke’s Commentary
Notice some of the distinct characteristics of Jesus Christ; Born in Bethlehem, eternal, from the old, ancient of days, a shepherd, a provider of security and peace.
What are you praying for on this earth this Christmas? Safety? Peace? Only Jesus, the Prince of Peace can provide it. He is the one with all authority. He is the one who will one day stand on this earth and make all things right. Why don’t you join me in beginning today with Jesus. Talk to Him now in prayer.
