Women are extremely vulnerable on Skid Row. It's not a question of if they'll be assaulted, but when. Many will suffer unspeakable abuse. Over time, they often feel paralyzed by shame.
That's why we never turn away a woman or family who comes to Union Rescue Mission for shelter.
Right now, the number of women devastated by homelessness on the streets of Los Angeles has increased 35%. The number of families has risen even higher at 111%! The sooner we can get these vulnerable people off the streets, the better.
Very soon, we'll be opening our new Sprung structure, a permanent shelter in our back parking lot, which will provide shelter and care for up to 120 women . . . the need has never been greater.
