Day 3: Serve Others
Mark 10:42-45 (ESV)
And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
I want more than ever, to be a servant leader like Jesus. I honestly feel that organization charts should be an upside-down pyramid. The CEO position means that I may be in charge, but that just makes me the servant of all. If I am ever thought of as a good leader, I want it to be for my efforts as a servant leader.
Jesus emphasized with His disciples the importance of looking out for others first – serving others first. Are there opportunities in your life today to put others first? Are you finding opportunities to serve others? If not, why not give it a try? Take some time and volunteer at a local mission or agency to serve a meal, share a food box, or read a book to someone who could be blessed from your service. If we want to follow in Jesus footsteps this Lenten season, we need to serve.
