record crowds expected this thanksgiving

Give someone the chance for new life this Thanksgiving...
starting with a $2.41 meal

The Thanksgiving season is always a challenge for the staff at Union Rescue Mission — but especially this year. In fact, Union Rescue Mission is preparing now for record crowds.

The number of people experiencing homelessness is up 23% since 2016. Although Union Rescue Mission has responded by nearly doubling the number of guests it is helping each month, it is still struggling to keep up with increased requests for shelter and its other life-changing services.

But Rev. Andy Bales, CEO, isn’t discouraged. Quite the contrary.

“This is the mission that God has called us to — to offer new life to those living on Skid Row and throughout Los Angeles County! To those who feel like giving up, we have an answer: put your hope in Jesus. He never disappoints!”

The Thanksgiving season is important. It’s the busiest time of year, both in terms of meals served, and people looking to make a fresh start. But it’s also an opportunity to reach more people with practical help and real hope.

Rev. Bales says his team is up to the task. Even if that task calls for serving more than 75,000 meals this holiday season.

Here’s his reason why:

“We live in a community that cares,” Rev. Bales says, “especially when our neighbors hear that the meals we provide are just the first step to helping people find new life. It’s really quite remarkable what $2.41 (the cost of a holiday meal) can do to open the doors to lasting hope.”

Observing Thanksgiving by giving to others who are less fortunate. That, Rev. Bales says, is the perfect way to celebrate this holiday season.

If you’d like to be a part of serving 2,424 people every single day this Thanksgiving season, you can give a gift now to help. But your gift will go even further...to help transform a life.

When you support Union Rescue Mission... you’re in great company

“When I saw a news report on TV a couple of years ago about all the families experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles and at Union Rescue Mission, I knew I had to help. To me, no other organization in Los Angeles is doing as much to help these precious families get back on their feet. If family is as important to you as it is to me, please support this wonderful organization.”

“My visit to Union Rescue Mission was really eye-opening. The Mission does incredible work to help people get back on their feet and assist those in need. They should be very proud of all that they have accomplished and I’m honored to have been a tiny part of it.”
