Day 14: Faithfully Giving What You Have
Mark 12:41-44 (ESV)
And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”
I love this story, the widow’s mite. At Union Rescue Mission, we ring the bell and thank the Lord every time a large gift comes into the Mission, and we thank the Lord. However, sometimes, we get to see this Scripture in action, like the day a little 4 year old boy came with his family and handed over his life savings in a piggy bank. As I reached out to take it, he held on a bit tighter and looked at me like, am I really giving the Mission everything that I have saved? But, he let it go, and gave all he had to help others. Are you contributing out of your abundance or faithfully trusting the Lord and giving what you have to Him and His work?
