This month we want to share Esperanza’s incredible addiction recovery story. Esperanza began to spiral after a heartbreaking relationship ended, resulting in her using drugs to cope. Those drugs soon became a priority over her children. In a vulnerable state, Esperanza was approached by a woman at a bus stop who had a similar background to hers, who suggested she try rehab. This encounter encouraged Esperanza to take her life back. Esperanza soon found a great support system for herself and her son at Hope Gardens. At Hope Gardens Esperanza heard God’s call and came to understand her purpose: to become the mother she was meant to be.

This month MaLisa shares the story of her past struggle with homelessness. At the tender age of 5, MaLisa was already experiencing a life without shelter. MaLisa recalls how her mother had a few encounters with domestic violence and how she had difficulty escaping those situations. At the Union Rescue Mission, MaLisa and her family were able to gain comfort and resources while living there. The Union Rescue Mission was able to provide the help MaLisa and her family needed. MaLisa’s hardships in life did not stop her from becoming the successful woman that she is today.
