HELP TODAY

Make the difference you want to see

"Homelessness on Skid Row is an epidemic of epic proportions,” says Rev. Andy Bales, Union Rescue Mission CEO. “It is a Red Cross-like disaster."

Nearly half of all Americans sleeping on the streets live in California. On any given night, more than 58,000 people in Los Angeles county alone are devastated by homelessness. Women and children make up 40 percent of this number. Help us prevent the spread of COVID-19 to our most vulnerable neighbors.

This is the reality of the critical challenge we face. It's one tempting us to either give up and give in, or rise up and challenge back.

Here's the good news...

Together with Union Rescue Mission, YOU are changing lives in Los Angeles.

Hope Gardens

An oasis of hope on 71 acres in the foothills of Sylmar, California, Hope Gardens is a transitional housing campus offering sanctuary to single women and children who have been devastated by homelessness. We believe no child should be raised on the dangerous, unforgiving streets of Los Angeles.

Hope Gardens helps women transition from homelessness to independence within 12 to 36 months by offering long-term rehabilitation programs, services, and spiritual care.

Precious women and children have a safe place to live while they receive counseling, training, encouragement, and the real help they need to escape homelessness forever.

“Being here and having the stability is what helped me get my daughters back”

Skid Row. The square-mile death trap brimming with drugs, drinking, violence, disease, and despair.

“There's a very unconditional love here. I know I can become a productive person again; that's what I want. I thank God every day for this.”

— Gary

“No one grows up and says, ‘I'm going to live at the mission.’ I try not to tell people; I don't think anyone at school knows. But...when you have people around you [at Union Rescue Mission] that make you feel safe and loved, then it's not as hard as it would be to be by yourself going through this."

— Olivia

"My kids are now happy and are in a space where nothing can harm them. That's what I always wanted."

— Maritza

“When we live here, my mom takes classes so that she can get a job and start saving money so that we can move into our own house. I know it gets better."
