Christmas has always been one of the highlights of my year, even here on Skid Row—maybe even because it’s on Skid Row.
What a privilege it is, every holiday season, to share with all our guests, and all those coming in from the streets of Skid Row, how much God loves us—sending His only Son to save us. It’s always a season when we go all out to welcome and lavish radical love on all these precious men, Planned Giving: women, and children
As I look back over the years I’ve served here at Union Rescue Mission, Hope Gardens, and Angeles House, we’ve faced a lot of difficult challenges—the Great Recession, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the growing crisis of homelessness in Los Angeles.
Yet, it’s not the challenges I remember most, it’s all the extraordinary men and women who have worked alongside me. And all the faithful friends like you who always stepped up to ensure we never had to turn a single person or family away.
I also recall all the faces of men, women, and children who came to us in crisis, but who found strength, courage, hope, and new life built on the foundation of Jesus Christ. It’s all about the lives changed— and these lives will be our witnesses in heaven, praising God for all He accomplished through people like you and me on their behalf. They will be my legacy, and they will be your legacy.
I’m going to miss all the compassionate, caring partners and friends like you who shine the “light of love” so brightly. Throughout my time here, your generosity and relentless love for the “least of these” has moved me to tears. You are a true witness of God’s grace, and I pray you will continue your faithful, loyal support in the months and years to come.
“It’s all about the lives changed— and these lives will be our witnesses in heaven.
In fact, one last time before I leave, I ask you, as a favor to me and in honor of God’s faithfulness here, to give one more time today. Thanks to our Year End Challenge Grant, your gift will automatically DOUBLE in impact to bless another woman, man, or child, devastated by homelessness who needs someone like you to care.
May God keep you and hold you in the palm of His hand!
