Two years after I was saved, I got married and we had my beautiful daughter, Savannah. Unfortunately, our marriage was rocky. We were constantly arguing and fighting, and we soon divorced.
The truth is, I had never built a solid foundation on Jesus. I didn’t know how to be a good husband or father. God, however, never gave up on me.
In 2017, I gained full custody of my daughter. I desperately wanted to be the father she needed—but how? I worked hard and got by, paycheck to paycheck. In 2021, I took a job with a relative, but when that opportunity fell apart,
I lost everything and we ended up homeless. I was so depressed and I felt like a failure as a father.
I started calling around, looking for a shelter that would accept me and my daughter. Then I heard that Union Rescue Mission never turns a family away. They took us in immediately.
Not only did my daughter and I have safe shelter and three meals a day, I found a place where I could be still, refocus on God and learn how to be a better Christian man and father. I joined the one-year Christian Life Discipleship Program, and it’s completely transforming my life.
Every day, I have the chance to study Scripture, learn parenting skills, pray with other men who are struggling just like me and let Jesus form me into the man and the father He always wanted me to be. Here, God has shown me how much He cares about me. I feel safe with Him and I trust Him like I’ve never trusted anyone. God has become more than my Savior, He is the parent I never had.
“When Jesus saved me, I found hope.”
Savannah means the world to me. She’s an angel and a trooper, and when I look at her, I see God’s face looking back. She’s as proud of me as I am of her. To you, the donors, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thanks to you, my daughter has the daddy she deserves.
