On Wednesday July 7, 2010 over 20 tons of snow will blanket Union Rescue Mission. Santa and his little helpers will transform URM into a Winter Wonderland so that more than 200 youngsters experiencing homelessness (ages 3 to 17) can enjoy a special early Christmas celebration.
“Christmas In July” is sponsored by SUBWAY Restaurants and will feature mountains of snow, colorful volunteer elves and game booths along with tasty treats like cotton candy, snow cones, popcorn and more. Each child will receive a gift from Santa Clause and will also be treated to a delicious lunch catered by SUBWAY.
Andy Bales said, “I can’t think of a better way to lift the spirits of children experiencing homelessness than giving them an extra Christmas. Santa, snow, toys, lots of snacks and food go a long way in helping children forget, even for a little while, that they are living in a shelter and not their own home. I am thankful to SUBWAY for providing this happy time for our kids”.

20 tons of snow brought to the streets of LA in the middle of summer!!! Not everyday! Thats just it, the organization that is putting on this event isn’t something you would see everyday! There something so much more! Union Rescue Missions (URM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to serving men, women and children experiencing homelessness. It was established in 1891, URM is one of the largest rescue missions of its kind in the United States and the oldest in Los Angeles. They provide a comprehensive array of emergency and long-term services to our guests, including: food, shelter, clothing, medical and dental care, recovery programs, transitional housing, legal assistance, education, counseling, and job training to needy men, women, children, and families.

Along with an appearance from Santa, we will have a the “Urban Illusionist” attending our event. He will be performing hundreds of effects and spending time with the kids!
